Bow
Source Water Protection Committee was formed
by the Board of Selectmen on May 10, 2005, after the
NH Department of Environmental Services selected Bow to receive a grant
from the NH Rural Water Association for the purpose of developing a plan
to protect the source water for Bow’s public
water systems. There are currently 32 public
water systems in the Town of Bow. The Committee issued
a report and recommendations. Typical recommendations
usually address security measures, regulatory changes,
and education.
At the January 24,
2006 Board of Selectmen’s
meeting, the Steering Committee presented the
plan for acceptance by the Board. The Committee recommended that the
Board continue the committee, renamed it the Bow Drinking Water Protection
Committee (DWPC), and charged it with implementing
the recommendations of the Source Water Protection Plan. Members of
the Steering Committee were asked to serve on the DWPC.

Water Protection Plan for the Town of Bow
The
purpose of the Source Water Protection Program
is to provide local leaders, water suppliers, and citizens with
the information necessary to protect public drinking water sources
from contamination. Through this program, state agencies assist
their communities by:
• Identifying the land areas that provide water to each public drinking
water source in their state;
• Completing an inventory of existing and potential sources of contamination
in those areas;
• Determining the susceptibility of each drinking water system to
contamination; and
• Releasing the results of the assessment to water users and other
interested entities.

• Implementing the recommendations of the Source Water Protection
Plan (for Town –owned water systems).
